An
overlay image is an image with alpha channel (transparency) that is used
to compose one frame in the movie. You can then add a nice title or logo
or whatever in a scene.
This section explain how to use an overlay image in a scene
sequence using TheGimp
(free clone of Photoshop). These are examples only, many other things can
be achieved.
Note: when using overlay image this slows down the preview playback, but
the final movie isn't affected.
Create an overlay title
- Start TheGimp
- Select File->New
- Define an image with Transparent FillType
- Use Text tool to add a title, change color if needed
- Now save the image with File->SaveAs and select
PNG

Create an overlay logo
- Start TheGimp
- Select File->New
- Define an image with Transparent FillType
- Import a logo image, draw whataver you want. Change global
transparency.
- Now save the image with File->SaveAs and select PNG
Result:
Create a mask
- Start TheGimp
- Select File->New
- Define an image with Transparent FillType
- Import an image, smoothly erase the part that would like
the movie to appear into.
- Now save the image with File->SaveAs and select PNG
