Overlay images

An overlay image is an image with alpha channel (transparency) that is used to compose one frame in the movie. You can then add a nice title or logo or whatever in a scene.
This section explain how to use an overlay image in a scene sequence using TheGimp (free clone of Photoshop). These are examples only, many other things can be achieved.

Note: when using overlay image this slows down the preview playback, but the final movie isn't affected.

Create an overlay title

  • Start TheGimp
  • Select File->New
  • Define an image with Transparent FillType
  • Use Text tool to add a title, change color if needed
  • Now save the image with File->SaveAs and select PNG
Result:
